My entry for the gaggle of turians contest over at #Lorik-Quiin

So at first this was going to be Lorik golfing poorly at his fancy office in Synthetic Insights on Noveria. And then I though, oh no, he needs to be visited by a errr sexy turian lady scientist... then I spent fifty years trying to come up with a lady turian lab coat. Then I thought, gee, why is she there, and I thought, by god, she should be getting his input (snicker) about fixing something. And then I decided holy hell, she should fix EDI, so I made a dead reaper just to... you know, establish the timeline. Then I thought hell, a salarian needs to be helping out... just because Synthetic Insights supports a wide range of species in their employment. I was momentarily sad there was no room for an elcor. Then I thought, hell, Joker needs to be told how things are going, so MOAR turians... enter Garrus who, as a personal favour, offered to oversee the operation. Also, just in case EDI wakes up as a brain fry zombie synthetic he can take care of things. With guns.

Lorik isn't just a business man errr.. turian. He's got ideas.... one might say insights... about synthetics. I'm terrible. And I got to carried away and I couldn't stop, and I've run out of time. I regret nothing.

The backstory would have been perfect if not for one detail.

Technically speaking, they're fixing the EVA frame - EDI herself, unless the ship's AI core was damaged (in which case it would be like a human having brain damage), is fine.

I think Bioware knew girls would fall in love with Turians. They HAD to have added Lorik with that in mind. There's no other way to explain it.

Great concept and composition. ( one thing though female turains unlike quarians have no breasts. They're not mammals, they're avian. )

Avians that have live births and don't lay eggs (according to BW). Describing conceptual alien species as being associated with any specific earth organism class is kind of lazy - though that's been a symptom of the fanbase for too long to really get into. As much as I love the mass effect canon police pointing out to me that turian females don't have boobs (as well as the people who were upset I drew a four cupped krogan bra, lol), I'm going to paint them just as I like. I also didn't make my fem turian bald, but you don't see many people complaining about that. I have to wonder why everyone thinks she's got boobs anyway - it's not as though there are nipples out on display.

I'm not canon police realty I can't not with my story. I say avian as much as I say humans are primates. Javik and Liara have a discussion about sslarians being amphibians, is that lazy?

sorry you got poed about a critique. and I didn't notice hair on your turian woman. her face was well drawn and that is all that necessary to convey female because of the two we see in game.

A critique about technique, anatomy, subject and execution I can readily accept. After years of art school and hundreds of critiques in front of crowds of people, things don't really faze me. I still appreciate a good, solid criticism and always appreciate the time people take to do so.

What gets under my skin is the intense correctness of accepted opinion about what should be in passionate fandoms such as this one. Perhaps it is just me reacting to so much concrete expectations about how things should be done or too much time back on the old BSN. It's just the same as my utter distaste for the suggestion of human turian hybrids, lol, so it's really a matter of personal taste in some regard. Please don't take my response as any sort of personal attack, the internet is a poor theatre for civil debate, as we all know. It was purely an explanation of my choices. :)

ah yes. I too know a good critique from criticisms. and yes I don't like hybrids ( or male asari) in the ME-vers either as anatomy would never work. cross-species marriages is vastly different. As form me I enjoy the fact that not all the aliens in the ME-vers is not based on mammals ( like star trek which means all females have boobs and every other race just as different facial ridges....BORING!) but idealistically on other animal life, birds, reptiles bugs and amphibians, jelly fish and apparently elephants. its refreshing. as for live births there are some breeds of sharks that give live births as well as snakes but they don't beast feed. lol

I so wish BW had taken the chance to make the turian females something clear cut and explained, as opposed to what they gave us which was maybes, possiblies and 'what do you thinks'. But I suppose this is asking a lot from a video game developer who's employees are more interested in a dollar and keeping their jobs than the product they create. And I'm not saying that in a derogatory way, only that it's too bad the industry demands surface homogenization and fears any sort of risk and imagination.

And I will agree... star trek and the infinite bosom. Hilarious, though arguable they were restricted to the realities of their medium. At least mass effect attempted to claim the similarities between species were groomed by reapers. It also makes hot hot turian human romances significantly more tolerable. :XD: Poetic licence I say.

well as far as developers go look at ALL the romances broShep gets as opposed to femShep, she doesn't get nearly as many and not nearly as good. but then I always have my Shep with Liara but if Jack or Tali were on the table then.... and i get artistic lenience I do, but I actually think the female turains are clear cut as they did stick to the avian archetypes such as the male have larger and longer frills/crests, their legs spikes are longer as does their mandibles in the comics it almost appears the females didn't even have leg spikes but in the game they do. ( sorta like Aria in the comics she purple in the game she's blue)and their backs are more arched. it's like the krogan females seem to be taller than the males at least Bercura seemed much larger than grunt or Wrex, hard to say with the salarians as the delatas (sp)didn't seem any more defined then her male counterparts.

Most video game developers are far from being interested in representing the minority, but this part is in part related to good business practice.

You and I will have to disagree about female turians being clear cut in what they should look like. Insisting they should look a certain way because a class of animals on earth is still lazy in my opinion. Besides, the archetypal claims you are making in regards to the differences between male and female members of the Aves class are a stretch. I would even argue they appear to have more in common with Artiodactyla based on their bone structure. But all this is an exercise in time wasting considering we are discussing something clearly not intended to be earth centric, and comparing it to such things is looking for similarities that only restrict our own imaginations.

ERRRrrrrmagehrd! So many things happening in the picture! And my bb Lorik is in the middle of it all. As he should be :iconsothereplz:

I love the story and the concept and your incrementalist process. THIS and then THIS and then THIS. That's how my brain does! XD

Holy shit he picked up human style golfing. He totally has one of those business-guy putt-practice things in his office. This seems so correct

I like your lady turian! I think it's arright that she's not a total baldie. Lady turians still have carapace over the top of their heads, so it's reasonable to say that maybe some ladies have more segmented, fringey head-carapace than others. Could this be a thing? I'd support this being a thing. She's great!

Hi Lorik's butt! :iconimhappyplz:

And damn! That vista in the background!

Hi Lorik's super nice new outfit! He looks good in that. A little red tone suits him.

Thank you so much for entering our contest again and for the labor you put into this. It's gorgeous as always and narratively intriguing. What a cool idea, that he could fix EDI after all! If anyone could do it and improve on Destroy as the least worst option, it would be my bb Lorik. :la:

Errrmagehrd Luuurik'sh Bheeert!
HNNNGGG I fucking love essays. Especially with good supporting points and examples. :XD:

I want you to know that the entire image was based on Lorik's butt err I mean pose. I wanted to get maximum crotch caressing in his dancing pants and his bum right there for good critical review. Seriously. At one point he was pointing right at EDI's crotch, and then I wondered if that was the wrong sort of message to send (hence her head coming off). Errr... anyway, I sort of wish now that I had put the fem turian in a really tight space bikini, with massive mammalian mammaries, just to get the fanbase worked up. :XD:

Also, for your consideration, the Synthetic Insights logo, which I really wanted to put everywhere, like on mugs and tee shirts and hats and the like. Unfortunately I get too literal and illustrative. I need to start painting squares in various shades of blue. It would be a good exercise in restraint.

Yes I considered it, but sexbot Shepard wasn't something I was ready to delve into :XD:. Besides, in my destroy ending, EDI is really the only character who ends up toasted. I was actually more attached to EDI when she was inside errr... part of the ship. I did feel bad frying her brain... but part of that was feeling bad I had cock blocked Joker. GOD DAMMIT ME3 so many regrets.
