Description

First off, I just want to be clear that this is not an attempt by me to make anyone feel bad about what ending they chose. This is just me exorcising my demons. =D

I was never able to properly explain in words why I found the synthesis option in mass effect 3 so repulsive... so, here is a picture about how I feel instead. Of course I had to do it in the most disturbing way possible. If I have to see this sort of crap in my head then I'm going to share it so we can all suffer a little, lol. Also, this will probably be the only time you see me draw babies. Ever.

Started this about five months ago, then shelved it... figured I should finish it up before I get too involved in other things. Painted in SAI and then fiddled with in CS?.

Edit: cleaned things up a little and darkened the human babe. Looks better now me thinks.

(this isn't what Synthesis does though.)

I've spent many years of my life lore diving for mass effect, and I will not lie. I chose destroy the first time I ever played, but that was because like Shepard and 75% of the irl fan base, I didn't understand. I chose with emotion for the crew I had lost.

but after around my 15th playthrough I really started to piece together what was happening. I chose every path I could, asked every question, killed and saved anyone possible and searched every planet, picked every possible ending.

I did EVERYTHING I could, an the answers I found made me stop and realize that in the entire trilogy, the only possibilities for two true villains are the leviathans who believed they were gods and Created an ignorant A.I. child to fix the issue they were part of

or you, the player. commander Shepard.

when you strip down the games, all it boils down to is that we don't understand and the reapers cannot explain. the reapers were slaves to the catalysts orders, and the reapers were alive. they were the forcefully digitized minds of entire species, stored in massive warships. ever reaper we killed, we killed a civilization who didn't ask for what they got. they couldn't defy orders, any more than they could be free.

the monsters they created from the corpses of our dead? weren't sentient or alive. they were just controlled puppets, nothing more.

the protoreaper we killed? it was the colonists we were trying to save, awoken in confusion and pain to the hero they wanted to save them attempting to kill them.

Synthesis removed the catalysts hold, and freed the reapers from that control. it changed everyone, Synthetic and organic alike so that we understand each other.

that ending shows the reapers helping rebuild, sharing knowledge thought lost billions of years ago. it puts us at peace, and free's the biosynthetic slaves the catalyst created.

corpse-soldiers meant for war wouldn't gain sentience, they'd be disposed of or allowed to be buried. the geth, if still alive, would get to live freely. along with anyone else, or any future synthetics. it's a peaceful resolution that saves *Everyone* possible, now and future. full stop.

Both other endings are just extreme decisions that prove the catalyst and thus the leviathans (the bad guys) right.

we weren't ready. our emotions don't allow for logical reasoning. we either allow greed to overcome us and take the catalysts place, or allow emotion to blind us and doom the galaxy to a repeat in a few hundred years.

Synthesis actually changes things.
